Residents in Mahuai village, Luodian county in southwestern China's Guizhou province lived in isolated mountains. In order to build a road to connect with the outside world, villager Deng Yingxiang led her fellow villagers to build a 200-meter-long tunnel with primitive tools such as chisels and hammers. Their hard work paid off. The tunnel linking the isolated village with the outside world was finally open. Deng Yingxiang won respect for her virtues of perseverance and will power.
