Chen Haiping was born with no fingers in Mengmen township of Luliang City, North China's Shanxi province. Chen did not further his education after graduating from middle school because of poverty. He chose to be a primary school teacher in his hometown.

48-year-old Chen Haiping has been working in a primary school in the mountainous area in northwest China's Shanxi province for 26 years. In recent years, he has got fewer and fewer students, but he expresses strong determination that he will stick to his position until the last student leaves the school.
