“The losing of my arms was my misfortune. But I am also a fortunate person because of all the love and care I have received from society. Now I am trying to inspire more disabled people with my story. We can all fight together and start our own entrepreneurship to give back to society,” said Yang Pei, a girl from Shannxi who had her arms amputated at the age of 9.
In 1996, Yang Pei was on her way home from school. The accidental contact with the high-voltage cables completely changed her life ever since. Yang’s arms had to be amputated in order to keep her alive.
Yang also thought about giving up and ending her life. But because of her mother, she decided to be strong and fight against her misfortune. She began to practice using her feet to do everything. And eventually she was able to use her feet proficiently just as one can use their hands.
By starting cross-stitching she turned her life into a new chapter. Her hard work in cross-stitch with her feet eventually paid off. Because of her exquisite cross-stitch work, Yang not only put her little brother through college, she also attended a reality show on TV during which she impressed thousands of spectators with her works.
Soon her story spread out. A man named Guo Yunbao who also comes from the same village and lives in Shenzhen contacted Yang and hopped to start up a business with Yang. Their focus on food safety brought these two partners together. In 2014, Yang officially became a “maker” at Guo’s company.
