A brightly painted treasure box was recently found in Beijing’s Palace Museum, and the treasures found within were put on public display on Nov. 16, Chinanews.com reported.

The box, as the first of its kind to be found painted with color, was discovered during the restoration of the Hall of Mental Cultivation, a main hall in the Palace Museum. It was found full of relics such as scriptures, coins, ingots made of five metals, jewels, satins and silk threads in five colors. Moreover, five types of incense, medicine and grains were also found in the treasure trove.

After two months’ research and repair, all the treasures found were exhibited in the Hospital for Relics in the Forbidden City.
