BEIJING, June 26 -- A spokesperson for China's Foreign Ministry on Friday accused the United States of double standards and "interfering in China's internal affairs" with its annual global human rights report.
China's human rights record came in for strong criticism in the report, released on Thursday.
Spokesperson Lu Kang said the report's comments on China "ignore the facts and are full of prejudice".
"China is willing to have frank and constructive dialogue on human rights with other countries in the principle of equality and mutual respect, but it is futile to adopt double standards on human rights and use the issue to interfere in China's internal affairs," he said.
Lu urged the United States to reflect more on its own human rights failings rather than acting as a "preacher of human rights".
