BEIJING, March 31 -- Emergency workers capped a gas leak in Beijing's city center Thursday, shortly after an underground pipeline was damaged during road work, authorities said.
Part of the underground gas pipeline was damaged Thursday morning by road workers who were repairing the road in Dongrongxian Alley near Tiananmen Square in the heart of Beijing, an official with the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Administration and Environment said on condition of anonymity.
Emergency workers from Beijing Gas Group capped the leak at 10 a.m. and no casualties were reported, he said.
Further repairs of the pipeline have been postponed until Thursday afternoon to avoid cutting gas supply during the lunch hour, the official said.
