On March 23, 2016, people from all ethnic groups in Mengnai Village, Zhengxing Town, Jinggu County, gathered together, singing and dancing joyously, to celebrate the Pilgrimage Festival, which falls on February 15 according to the Chinese calendar.
The region around the village is a place where the Dai people lives in compact communities and over which a southern Buddhist sect holds sway. In fact, a group of caves in the region, long believed to be the dwellings of gods, has for long been a site to which the Dai people goes on a pilgrimage. The group of caves in Mengnai Village is 60 kilometers away from downtown Jinggu County and includes over 30 caves of all sizes. These age-old karstic caves are beautiful and well known far and wide, and local people from all ethnic groups have long viewed them as a sacred place to pay homage to their gods.
