Born in April 1976 in Hong Kong, Chet Lam is an independent folk singer and songwriter. Since he was 10 years old, he has performed professionally in TV dramas and commercial songs.
After graduating from City University of Hong Kong majoring in Japanese Business, Lam started writing songs, and has released more than 200 compositions in the Chinese music industry. As a composer, he has written many pop hits for such singers as Eason Chan, Sammi Cheng, Stefanie Sun, and Elva Hsiao.
In 2005, Lam acknowledged his sexual orientation publicly during an interview with a local newspaper in Hong Kong. After that, he claimed that "There is no Elton John in Hong Kong, but only Chet Lam," in an interview with foreign magazine "The Advocate."
