On April 15, 2016, an awards ceremony was conducted at Pu'er Great Theater for the 2016 Pu'er Tea Contest, held as part of the 2016 "Chinese Tea--Pu'er's Taste" Pu'er Tea Culture Activity Month, and so was the related auction held for the products that competed in the tea contest, officially known as the 2016 Pu'er Tea Contest Product Auction.
At the auction, the entry sent in for the contest by Yunnan Pu’er Tea Group, which weighed 10 kilograms and won the top award as a specimen of a tea product prepared from fresh tea leaves of an ancient tea tree in Pu'er, was sold for 32,000 yuan.
