Lou Ye's "Summer Palace" entered competition for the Palme d'Or. Wong Kar-wai became the first Chinese President of Jury for the Cannes Film Festival. "Luxury Car" by Wang Chao won the side competition for the Prix Un Certain Regard.
2007
Wong Kar-wai's English film "My Blueberry Nights" was nominated for the Palme d'Or and opened the Cannes Film Festival. It was the first time in Cannes history that a film by Chinese director kicked off the festival.
